Over the past few years, Taras van de Voorde has built up his national reputation by playing at pretty much every major club and festivals in Europe, and you only have to witness the queues of enthusiasts in front of his local Catwalk in Rotterdam where he has held a long-term residency to understand the popularity of this fast rising DJ. On the production side of things, the release of tracks such as ‘Skylime’ and ‘1998’ brought props from DJs such as Pete Tong, Richie Hawtin, Agoria and Luciano while topping charts of prominent sites like Juno and Resident Advisor.
More recently, he has been brought to the attention of the Defected faithful via his electric remix of Stuffa’s ‘Proof’, so we thought it was about time he was invited to join the increasing number of artists to provide an In Their House mix… and after a few months of trying to pin him down he finally found some time to do just that…
In Their House #14 - Taras van de Voorde by Defected Records
How’s your day going so far?
My day started out pretty relaxed after a crazy weekend and gig in Cafe D'Anvers, Antwerp. Today it’s Monday, so I'm just relaxing a little and listening to music, cleaning the house, basically doing nothing special. Monday is my Sunday!
You were one of the few DJs lucky enough to play at Ushuaia this year..tell us a little about the experience?
Yeah, Ushuaia was great. In my opinion Ushuaia is the number one hotspot on Ibiza. I've played there two times for Defected and I enjoyed it big time!
Will you be back in 2012?
I hope so :)
How and where was the mix recorded?
I recorded this mix at home on 2 CDJ2000's and a DJM-600 mixer. I recently switched to CDJs again after three years of using Native Instruments’ Traktor. With the CDJ2000 you can do pretty much the same as Traktor but I feel like I’m DJing for real again.
Can you tell us about a few of the stand-out tracks on the mix?
Well, I think every single track stands out in their own way. For me personally they all have one thing in common; they are all one of a kind, unique tunes.
Is it fair to say it’s a little deeper than some people may have expected?
That is a very fair thing to say haha. I think there is more to life than just the Beatport Top 10s.
For me, when I got the request from Defected to make this mix it was a perfect opportunity to bring something else to the table. Not that this is the most deep shit ever by the way, but still it is a bit deeper than my usual stuff. Just take a good listen to the music and get lost in the arrangements, melodies, beat programming or whatever. Give it a chance.
What have you got lined up for the first part of the new year?
Lots!! A lot of DJing, and production-wise I will mainly focus myself on my own productions again instead of remixes. My latest remix for 2000 and One's label, Area Remote will be released on 29th December.
Anything else you’d like to tell us about…?
Work hard, enjoy life, be yourself, dig deeper and try to be original! :)
