First joining forces in 2005, German house duo Trickski have since established themselves as one of the most original electronic acts around, with releases on a diverse list of imprints from Compost Black and Future Classic to Sonar Kollectiv and Defected. Now a cornerstone of the Suol collective of artists, it was on the acclaimed label that they released their debut album Unreality last year, a record they have been working on from the day they formed the group.

For this special live edition of In Their House, we bring you nearly three exclusive hours of Trickski direct from Kater Holzig earlier this year.

So 2012 is halfway done, how’s it been for you so far?

Actually it has been a very good year, we have played lots of gigs, had lots of fun together, been to many different wonderful places and just had a little tour in Mexico where we played an amazing party together with Daniel Bortz and Fritz Zander. We also played at Andrew Weatherall’s birthday party at Corsica Studios in London, which was MASSIVE! And to cap it all off we’re leaving for South Africa tomorrow for a little tour, together with Andre Lodemann.

After the effort you clearly put into last year’s ‘Unreality’, has it been difficult to get back in the studio again?

No it wasn’t really difficult. I mean we never went to the studio that often actually, that’s why it took us so long to get done with ‘Unreality’. We have been touring which made it difficult to be in the studio regularly. We literally worked on the album since the beginning of Trickski. Because we always wanted to do an album, I mean, we are still from this ‘Old School’ Jazzanova, Sonar Kollektiv.. more jazzy camp, of you know, you just had to have an album. So we have just been collecting stuff for this, all along the way. So that’s basically mainly the reason why it just took us so long to come out with an album and that’s actually also the reason why it is not particularly difficult to get back to the studio right now, but why it’s always a shit load of work when we go to the studio. Because we want to do a 12” for the clubs, but we might want to do another album or we might want to do some chill-out tracks or some really slow house!

What projects are you currently working on?

Not a lot to be honest! We have been doing a remix for Cocolores a new duo from Munich, which is being released on Exploited in the next month or so. The original is good already so we had a blast doing that one. Then there is going to be a remix for DJ Hell for a song he did with Puff Daddy, but we have done that one quite a while ago. And there is a remix for a French pop band called ‘Outlines’ and we are going to work on a remix for Mario and Vidis, with Ernesto who was singing on ‘Unreality’ already.

How and where was this mix recorded?

The mix was recorded at Kater Holzig at an incredible night. It was crazy, just crazy.

Tell us about Suol, the label seems to be going from strength to strength, why do you think that it is?

I think that is because all the artists are just very good producers and quality always wins in the end. I guess Suol has never had this big hype that other labels have had but its growing continuously and there is fundament of substance we would say in Germany. Just high quality on every level, every producer knows what he is doing, has been doing it for a long time, there is no big hype or people going just crazy or really need to do it or nervous about everything. But everybody is doing things in the way they are supposed to do. And everybody loves music and we hang out together and help out each other. It’s just a good team and I think the successes kind of consequence already. It’s just good guys, good music, I guess that’s enough I hope.

Anything else you’d like to tell us about…?

We’ll be coming to the UK soon on the fourth of August... and yeah always keep your eyes open for any new stuff whether it’s from us or from the heavens above… you never know where good stuff comes from. Cheers!
