Few producers in the history of dance music have made such a rapid and far-reaching impact on the electronic music scene as Eats Everything aka Bristolian Daniel Pearce. Widely regarded as one of the most technically gifted DJs around – and with a strong catalogue of releases on labels such as Defected, Dirtybird, Futureboogie and Black Butter to boot – he has fest established himself as a truly essential artist, and a ‘must-see’ for any house fan visiting the White Isle.
Ahead of his appearance at Booom! for Defected In The House this Saturday, we shot him our quick-fire, Ibiza-related questions…
What was the first party you went to in Ibiza?
My recollection is a little hazy but it was either Carl Cox at Space in 1997 or another night at Space in 1997 where Thomas Bangalter played the best DJ set I have ever seen to date. I watched him at Amnesia a couple of days later DJ to about 15 people on the old Amnesia Terrace. Madness.
Where do you go to relax on the island?
There is a brothel called......oh wait sorry, I go to Benniras beach, Amante (where I got married) or the most relaxing place in the world, Hotel Hacienda.
Who would you most like to play a back to back set with?
Either Thomas Bangalter, Carl Cox or DJ Ellis Dee (playing old skool hardcore and jungle techno, obvs) as they have played my three favourite DJ sets ever. Maybe one day my dreams will come true...
Have you ever missed a flight because you partied too hard the night before?
You know what, and this is the honest truth; I have never, touch wood, missed a flight at all. Not for any reason. I have had flights cancelled and have come pretty close but never actually missed one.
Which record is going to be the one that everyone’s talking about this year?
It's either Breach ‘Jack’ or Ninetoes ‘Finder’ innit. They are the two. ‘Finder’ came in late in the day but it’s the one that is the most hyped right now.
Who’s an underrated artist we should all be listening to?
Lukas from Bristol who I do The Eel with is for me the best producer out there who isn't as big as he should be. He makes great, great, unique house music.
What was the record that got you into dance music?
Felix ‘Don't You Want Me. I can't be bothered to tell the story again, but it involves me, underpants and wrestling. Google it.
When you’re not DJing where do you go to party?
I don't really party unless I am DJing if I am honest. If I am not DJing I am sleeping or being fucking lazy. I love to afterpary at Es Vive and Pikes though!
How do you tend to relax when you’re not playing or making records?
I watch Ross Kemp on Gangs or other gang related documentaries, Louis Theroux etc. I love all that nonsense. Also driving around Bristol in my car listening to talking on the radio I find relaxing.
What’s your favourite Defected record?
Ooh that's a toughy. It would probably be something old by King Unique. Or Niquid ‘Closer’ which I believe you guys put out.
Tell us something about yourself that not many people know…
I'm actually Brad Pitt and Spider-Man and I have an IQ of 275. I can also bench press 2 Hulk Hogans and have a 19inch penis (flaccid).
