Nick Curly is the driving force behind the so-called ‘Sound of Mannheim’, long considered the rising star of the international house scen; a status he has long since left behind after his subsequent meteoric rise. As well as being a phenomenal DJ, he is also a wizard in the studio with his ‘Between the Lines’ LP and recent remix of Dennis Ferrer’s ‘Mind Ur Step’ attesting to his studio craft.

This Saturday he returns to Booom!, Ibiza for his final appearance for Defected In The House of the season. Ahead of the party, we shot some of our quick-fire questions his way...

What was the first party you went to in Ibiza?

The first party I went in Ibiza was 1998 at Space, to see Frankie Knuckles playing  for seven hours on the old Space Terrace. I’ll never forget this party.

Where do you go to relax on the island?

I like to hang out at a nice villa by the pool when I stay for a few weeks, but also I like to go to some beaches in the north where I can really relax.

Who would you most like to play a back to back set with?

Good question. Usually I do not that many b2b sets. I played a good one a few years ago at an afterparty at the old Ushuaia, where I played b2b with Radioslave. Also I had lots of fun playing last year with Mathias Kaden at the Time Warp Festival in Mannheim.

Have you ever missed a flight because you partied too hard the night before?

No, but I have occasionally had to change my flights because of hanging on too long at the afterparty.

Which record’s been the one that everyone’s been talking about this year?

Not sure if there is one in particular, but my own favourite tunes this summer were Tuccillo´s 8Bit EP we release early this year and also the remix that Dennis Ferrer did for my ‘Underground’ track.

Who’s an underrated artist we should all be listening to?

Junior Gee.

What was the record that got you into dance music?

That was a breakbeat vinyl from the Label Knight Force.

When you’re not DJing where do you go to party?

I don't really!

How do you tend to relax when you’re not playing or making records?

I go for a long walk with my dog and sometimes I play Tennis.

What’s your favourite Defected record?

Soul Rebels ‘The Revolution Will Not Be Televised’ (Lunar Disco Remix).

Tell us something about yourself that not many people know…

I used to work for Mercedes Benz as a engineer for 10 years.
