Mr Master At Work ‘Little’ Louie Vega has finally gotten round to mixing the second volume of BBE compilation series Mad Styles & Crazy Visions, some 10 years or so after he mixed the first cult instalment.

Mad Styles & Crazy Visions 2 is helpfully subtitled: A Journey Into Electronic, Soulful, Afro & Latino Rhythms – Vega selects and fuses a wide range of uptempo dance cuts by the likes of Basement Jaxx (featuring Yoko Ono), Loco Dice, Todd Terry, Black Coffee, DJ Koze, Phil Asher and, of course, himself. The album, spread over two discs, aims to highlight contemporary dance music’s close relationship to the melting pot disco sounds of the 1970s and 80s, as eclectically-mixed ‘back in the day’ by DJ pioneers such as Paradise Garage’s Larry Levan.

Vega will be playing an exclusive live show in London – at East Village, May 29 – to launch the record, backed by live percussion from Sheyi and the vocals of wife Anane; BBE founder Pete Adarkwah also plays. The intimate event doubles as a launch for jazz-funky BBE album Seven Heven, compiled by broadcaster-DJ Mark Webster.  Check www.bbemusic.com for ticket info.

Mad Styles & Crazy Visions 2 is released May 24 as double-CD and download.
