Martyn, the venerable Dutch-born, DC-based (as in Washington) DJ and producer, has confirmed details for his second artist album; a follow-up to 2009’s Great Lengths.

Where that debut work was “very personal… my sorrows and my melancholy”, new release Ghost People promises more general, thematic content; in particular, references to the open-minded ‘roots’ of DJ culture. It also acts as something of a tour diary for Martyn’s last two, extensive years on the road.

Listeners can expect a feisty mix of dubstep, drum & bass, Detroit techno, funky house and breakbeat. “I want to be known as someone that always surprises” he comments. “I think that some people have started to accept that. That’s my favourite position to be in.”

Martyn has been DJing for 15 years now; and producing for six. He continues to run the imprint 3024 but will release Ghost People (with special artwork by 3024 visual artist partner Elosie) via Flying Lotus label Brainfeeder.

A 12-inch single, Masks/Viper, appears next week prior to the full album’s arrival October 10. A number of special launch parties around the world are also being planned.
