Miss Divine reports from a week of pools and parties at the Miami Music Week 2011...
5 days and 5 nights of parties to cram in as much as your body, feet and liver can take. I was lucky enough to have a week before with my mum in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida for pure chill out or as I liked to call it ‘the calm before the storm’. DJ Mag on Wednesday kicked off the parties at the Shelborne with a Stella line up including Lee Foss, Dennis Ferrer, James Zabelia, Dubfire & Art Department to name just a few. Dennis Ferrer was man of the match that day, dropping his signature track ‘Hey Hey’ which had everyone bouncing happily in the sun.
Thursday Luciano was hosting the Cadenza Pool Party at the Shelborne, playing back2back with Carl Craig all day. Was feeling a little wounded from the amount of shots that were drank the previous evening so didn’t get down to the party till 6pm, by which time it was already packed and going off in true Luciano style. It was hard to see who was actually playing at any given time as the console was mobbed with sun kissed girls, Italian moustaches and lots of tequila bottles being thrown around. The place absolutely erupted when Luciano dropped a remix of Whitney Houston ‘Dance with Somebody’ which had every girl singing along shamelessly.
Leaving the Shelborne on a high we hit the Circo Loco party. The queue was massive and after queuing for what seemed a lifetime, we got searched and ushered through to another queue. After eventually handing our tickets over we were told; ‘this is a Trance party dude, Circo Loco is next door’ Duh! Luciano must have had more effect on me than I thought! The line up was the usual suspects from DC10 in Ibiza; Dyed Soundorom, Clive Henry and System of Survival which all did the do till the sun came up at and was still going strong when we peeled ourselves away at about 11am.
Friday day was Seth Troxler’s Visionquest party, back at the Shelborne. Tale of Us were unbelievable; their sound was very unique and nothing like I had heard before, deep, deep bass lines and melodic vocals – perfect pool party music.
Seth Troxler looked a little tired which maybe could have been my fault as we had a little hotel after party after Cicro Loco and Seth had to knock on our door twice to ask us to turn the music down! The 2nd time was more of a plead to turn it down and in true Seth fashion he came armed with an offereing of a bottle of brandy which we gladly took off him and called it a night.
After a lovely dinner it was time for the Objectivity party which I had been really looking forward to all week, Dennis Ferrer and Kerri Chandler back2back; two of my all-time favourite DJs so it was a special set to say the least. The venue was downtown, a huge space with a warehouse feel, banging sound system and state of the art lighting, something the club had boasted about on the website and lived up to in every way possible.
Saturday was Jamie Jones ‘Get Lost’ party hosted at the Electric Pickle; two rooms and a huge courtyard out the back. It was a nice change from the pool parties and felt like home from home, lots of London faces and the usual underground DJs you can expect to hear from London including Matt Tolfrey and Clive Henry. Music was awesome all day and the vibe was incrediblel; lots of Miami anthems were broken that day that I’m sure will cause a storm in Ibiza this summer, with Maya Jane Coles Remix of 4th Measure Men’s ‘4 You’ getting the biggest response of the day.
Saturday night was the Xmix party at Shine with Kenny Dope, Jonathan Cowan and Harry Choo Choo Romero. I love Shine, it’s the club inside the Shelborne so its rolling distance back to your hotel room. Perfect ;)
Finally, Sunday rolled around, and the closing party at the Shelborne with a legendary set from Danny Tenaglia. We popped in there before going back downtown to the Hot Natured party which is run by Jamie Jones and Lee Foss who are absolutely killing the London scene at the moment with their sound, encorporating elemets from deep house, big basslines and 90s samples – proper party music and always a unique vibe. People got fully involved, dressing up in fancy dress with moutaches seemingly the theme of the night.
Although Miami Music Week was unreal and I got to hear some DJss that I wouldn’t normally get to hear, I still think its all about WMC and the soulful parties. I will be going back there next year for sure!
