The wondrous and uber-glossy Zoe Hardman came to stay last week and had us all in a hair-flicked frenzy within minutes. I’m calling it the Zoe effect. There’s something about having a friend to stay which TOTALLY tricks you into thinking that “Yes!! I too am on holidays!! I may do as I please at all times!! And I will not, cannot, positively REFUSE to go to sleep or go home EVER!!”
I clearly was not supposed to be on hols, but I did rather behave as though I was and I loved it. Lazy suntanning was the order of the day - Yemanja categorically has the most comfortable daybeds around, even if they are packed together like records in a box, and Tropicana has added 2 new salads to the menu, which, if you go as often as I do, is the next most exciting thing since Zara opening in Ibiza last year.
We had a much-missed lunch at my absolute secret waterside fave, the Fish Shack in Talamanca, which if you’ve never been to you should REALLY try out. The Fish Shack is perched delicately on the rocks, way out past Sa Punta, and looks a bit like an explosion in a parasol factory but is, in fact, the second home of anyone who loves eating what swims, and also of the entire Swedish House Mafia crew. De-lish and totally romantic too.
My favourite DJ, Kitt Proudfoot
Wednesday we hit Morillo at Pacha as usual – I can’t get enough of my old Subliminal family and it’s always SO much fun! Then Thursday Kitt and I took my shazzy white Golf Cabriolet for a mega road-trip around the island – we drove via San Juan up to Portinatx (practically the end of the world) and went discovering hidden beaches and coves all along the coastline. Cala Xarraca and Cala Xucla, both at the North of the island, are super-cute and well worth a visit if you’re tired of the hordes on Salinas and Cala Jondal.
Friday was all about a Club Tropicana-style pool party at my friend Jules and Ali’s RIDIC gaffe in the campo – disco dancing, aubergine throwing, squash-playing nonsense and utterly brilliant.
The World's Best Bathtub
Come Saturday we were all ready to party again and we headed to Ushuaia at about 8, just in time to catch the last of Sam Divine’s set and ready to watch Morales in full effect. David Morales is literally a hero amongst men, and this is somewhat reflected in the shirt-off/arms open stance that he adopts EVERY time he plays. It’s like watching Rio de Janeiro’s “Christ The Redeemer” statue spin some tunes. Always epic.
The wonderfully camp El Lio is our new fave for pre-Pacha cocktails overlooking the port, and being only a stone’s throw from the club, you can really get involved. The view at night across the water towards Dalt Vila is next-level, and makes me fall in love with my adopted hometown again every time I see it…
Pacha and Morales were an electric combination as usual – he knows the club and it’s crowd so well and it shows in the way he works them. The main room was packed and it only seems to be hotting up more and more – the Defected takeover in full effect!
