Major manufacturer of professional DJ kit, Pioneer, has announced a new all-in-one DJ system, the XDJ-R1.

The system combines two CDJs, a robust mixer and dedicated laptop interface.  The turntables feature CD drives alongside ports for USB flash drives and laptop-based software, whilst the centrally-positioned mixer provides users with a three-band EQ and Pioneer’s established Beat Sync and Quantized Beat FX features.  Other devices, such as additional CDJs and vinyl turntables, and, of course, laptops, can also be connected for additional versatility.

The XDJ-R1’s key feature – an industry first – is its intuitive remote control via iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch.  The DJ system can be controlled wirelessly by Pioneer’s rekordbox app on any of those iOS devices, users able to browse and mix outside of the booth, whilst manipulating the app’s two-dimensional XY touchscreen pad to assign and shape various effects and filters.

The XDJ-R1 comes with Pioneer’s customary touch-sensitive jog wheels (for precision scratching) and buttons for ‘hot’ cues, loops and samples.  The system, set to be priced at €999, will be launched this month alongside a dedicated DJC-SC3 storage bag.
