Berlin-based Brit Matt Edwards has completed the 23rd edition of the illustrious Balance compilation series as alias Radio Slave.
The album’s first disc offers a firm house flow, featuring weighty cuts by Delano Smith, Rhadoo, Prins Thomas, Joaquin ‘Joe’ Claussell, Larry Heard and, of course, Radio Slave, among others. Balance 23’s second disc paints deeper home listening-style strokes via licks from Edwards’ favourite producers including Ryuchi Sakamoto, Slum Village and Herbie Hancock. There’s also room for material by Edwards’s other projects The Machine and, alongside Joel Martin, Quiet Village.
Matt Edwards’ last major compilation as Radio Slave was fabric 48 in 2009. Owner of cult house label REKIDS, Edwards has also enjoyed several releases as The Machine, Quiet Village, Matthew E and Seadevils.
Following series outings by the likes of Nic Fanciulli and Deetron, Balance 23 is released on Balance Music (Aus) on May 24.
