There were no raucous New Year’s celebrations at The Cross on January 1, 2008, for it was the legendary London nightclub’s last ever night before closing down to make way for Europe’s largest ever urban regeneration scheme – the revamp of Kings Cross.

All might not be lost however as Roger Madelin, joint CEO of redevelopment company Argent, has now been quoted by The Times expressing his desire for the club to re-open as part of the re-development scheme:  “We want to keep a certain edginess in the area, otherwise it would lose its historical value.”

It follows the discovery in January this year that The Cross was in fact a listed building and can’t be demolished by Argent at any stage of the project.  The Cross founder Billy Reilly has stated his intention to open a new club in Kings Cross in 2010 but there is clearly now a feeling he may not need to.

Launched in 1993, The Cross hosted hugely pivotal club nights over the years such as Glitterati, Cheeky People, L’Amour and Milk ‘n’ 2 Sugars, and attracted many of the world’s biggest DJs.
