Cult New York house producer Pal Joey – AKA Joseph Longo – is the subject of a forthcoming ‘Best Of’ album set for release on connoisseurs’ label BBE.
Pal Joey Presents Hot Music features over 20 classic tracks, including major Pal Joey hits Partytime, Happy and
Raw Love. There are also outings for Longo’s other aliases Soho (Hot Music), Earth People (Dance, Reach Up To Mars), DreamHouse (Jump And Prance) and Los Dos (Cabaret). Much of the music – a fusion of house groove and B-boy pep - comes from Longo’s Loop-D-Loop imprint and, in turn, its inimitable numbered EP series, which first launched in 1990 and, last year, hit #24.
Longo began his career by making reel-to-reel tracks with simple drum machines and vocal samples, painstakingly cutting recordings with a razor. He worked in influential New York record shop Vinylmania, enjoyed collaborations with everyone from KRS-One to ambient dons The Orb and steadily built up a game-changing discography. His music, regularly cited by clubland’s great and good, has also appeared on labels Sony-Epic, Talkin’ Loud and Wave Music.
Pal Joey Presents Hot Music is released by BBE on October 21.
