Celebrated techno collective Sandwell District will release the latest instalment of the Fabric mix series – Fabric 69 – in April.
Sandwell District, incorporating artists Regis, Function, Silent Servant and Female, wound its eponymous record label down in 2011 but Regis and Function have maintained the Sandwell name via live shows and festival performances.
Fabric 69 – as exclusively revealed in our Function interview earlier this year – represents a first Sandwell release since 2010 studio album Feed Forward. The mix, over one disc, includes productions from Function, Regis and Silent Servant, as well as Carl Craig, Planetary Assault Systems, James Ruskin, Laurent Garnier and close Sandwell associates Surgeon and Rrose.
Function (real name Dave Sumner) completed the album’s final mixdown, incorporating Regis’ notes and suggestions before re-running the entire set several times in order to fine tune it. He has reportedly described Fabric 69 as “encapsulating an era and putting it to rest.”
A launch party is scheduled at Fabric for April 20, featuring Function and Regis alongside Terry Francis, RRose. Elsewhere in the club, Matthias Tanzmann, Laura Jones, Craig Richards, Prosumer and Murat play.
Fabric 69 is released by Fabric Records on April 22.
