Henrik Schwarz and Bugge Wesseltoft’s eclectic live partnership, based around improvisational, jazz-flecked electronic music, has been channelled onto a debut album due for release this summer.

Entitled Duo, the long-awaited eight-track release mixes live recordings and deep studio productions, and includes updates of tunes by each artist (Playing, by Wesseltoft, and Leave My Head Alone Brain, by Schwarz).

Wesseltoft is a well established jazz pianist, who has previously collaborated with Francois K and Laurent Garnier; Schwarz, meanwhile, is closely allied to the Innervisions camp (Ame and Dixon) and regularly works jazz riffs into his solo tracks and live gigs. When they have performed together, Schwarz and Wesseltoft have played laptop and piano respectively.

“For me this Duo is like the first words in a long conversation,” Schwarz comments. “The improvisational aspect means freedom, and at the same time improvisation has been one of the greatest limitations and challenges in live electronic music for many years now. For me, this is a dream come true and a big next step.”

Duo is released by Universal Music in June, date TBA.
