DJ and producer Shem McCauley has died.


The acclaimed maker of many a prog house classic under the name Slacker passed away in Thailand last weekend, according to reports.

It's not yet known the circumstances or cause of death, but the DJ community has been quick to pay tribute to him.

Sasha wrote on Twitter: “RIP Shem (Slacker) So sorry to hear about his passing. Top geezer and inspirational producer. Such sad news.”

John Digweed added: “Shem was a great DJ, amazing producer and a good friend to many, me included. Sadly he passed away last weekend. I will be broadcasting one of the most popular mixes he did for me, almost 6 years to the day. He called it 'Obsessive Sounds' and I am going to play the 60 minutes in it's entirety so please make sure you tune in to pay your respects. Shem you will be missed my friend. Your music will always be with with us.”

Pete Tong weighed in too, saying: “Very sad to hear the Slacker passed away. Shem, RIP. Used to hammer this back in the day...”
