Fast-rising Frenchman Shonky – AKA Berlin-based DJ and producer Oliver Ducreux – has confirmed that he will be launching a new record label with peers Dan Ghenacia and Dyed Soundorom.

The label, named after singer Apollonia Kotero, who appeared as ‘Apollonia’ in Prince’s hit 1980s movie Purple Rain, promises to reflect its founders varied dancefloor tastes. Nevertheless there will be some emphasis on funky, disco-edged grooves; a nod to the sounds peddled by Kotero’s own all-girl band back in the day.

The Apollonia imprint will launch in January, most likely with an EP featuring compositions by Soundorom, Ghenacia and Shonky. The latter two, of course, ran the Freak ‘n’ Chic label alongside David Duriez up until last summer, before focusing on other musical commitments.
