The Southport Weekender is moving from its spiritual home in Southport.

This year's May event will now take place at the Butlins holiday camp in Minehead, Somerset, the same venue for the BLOC Weekender.

The move has come after Pontins, the owners of the Southport site, went into administration late last year.

Said the event promoters: “We have left Pontins as we took very serious legal advice on this. Despite making all the right noises, Pontin's Administrators would not give us concrete guarantees that the event would go ahead.

“Southport is just a town, the Weekender spirit was created by all of us together over 24 years and can and will be carried anywhere as we proved in Croatia. The difference is, this is a dream location and we are working with the proper tools, venue and no longer having to cover over the massive deficiencies we've been burdened with.”

The line-up remains intact, with a role call of top flight DJs locked in, including Derrick Carter, Kerri Chandler, Jellybean Benitez, DJ Spen, Dixon, DJ Spinna, David Rodigan, Karizma, Theo Parrish, The Unabombers, Benji B, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Rub N Tug, Joy Orbison, Ronnie Herel and Shortie Blitz.
