“Some of my early influences were New Order and Kraftwerk, I was always the youngest kid in the record store.”

If you frequent record stores or download fresh dance music, the name of French Canadian producer/DJ Fred Everything will no doubt be familiar to you. As a creator of deep and tasteful house music he's been prolific, having a background as a musician since his high school days.

"I mostly put bands together in school as an outlet to make music,” he says. “In the late 80s, early 90s it became possible to make music by yourself, so I did that. After that, Djing just came naturally. I've always been into electronic music, from an early age."

The energetic, dark and aggressive sounds of acid house and the UK's Warp Records were also an early influence and Fred debuted as a producer on the latter in 1996 before shortly afterwards beginning a longlasting relationship with UK deep house imprint 20:20 Vision.

“That was one of my first record deals and pretty much set me up as an artist, doing singles, albums, remixes and dates with them,” he says. “If I hadn't had that, things might have been more difficult for me. It opened up some doors for sure.”

On 20:20 Vision Fred released his breakthrough album “Under The Sun” in 2000 with a collection of his early remixes coming just a year later on Bombay. He has since recorded for Om Records, Drumpoet Community, Local Talk, Defected and his own Lazy Days imprint.

Recent times have seen Fred concentrate more on his own label, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2015, rather than fulfill the large number of remix requests of earlier times, although he has released great remixes for Crazy P and Cats & Dogs in recent memory. This concentration on his own productions and his own label has resulted in some brilliant original material, not least the epic vocal tracks "Searching" featuring Jinadu and "Believe" featuring Kathy Diamond, both of which have been signed by Defected Records, the former coming with Atjazz and Deetron remixes and the latter with mixes by Giom and Fred Everything himself.

Both Lazy Days and Defected Records run their operations like family concerns, building longlasting relationships. As such, Lazy Days will continue its catalogue with releases from longterm collaborators like Atjazz and Shur-i-kan and you can catch Fred Everything DJing for the Defected family at Glitterbox events and at Defected Croatia Festival this summer. As experienced behind the decks as he is in the studio, if you've only heard his deep house productions you might be surprised by the energy Fred Everything is capable of bringing to the party.

Fred Everything - Searching (Feat. Jindau) will be released August 8th on Defected Records
