The Sydney Festival, an annual three-week cultural extravaganza taking in everything from choreographed dance to poetry via a wide sweep of musical performance including hip-hop, country and club, has just confirmed its January 8-30 line-up for next year.

The electronic music scene will be ably represented at various club nights hosted by promoters including Mad Racket, Picnic and Future Classic. Detroit’s Octave One collective are on hand for some raw, stripped-back techno, whilst eclectic disco-jockey DJ Harvey and German deep house meister Henrik Schwarz also appear. Other guests include Mathew Jonson’s Cobblestone Jazz outfit and Aussie experimentalist Gotye.

Elsewhere, acts include legendary US hip-hoppers Arrested Development, country star Emmylou Harris and, intriguingly, Hollywood star John Malkovich.
