Lots of restaurants take pride in the music that they play, some would even have highly paid, trendy music consultants to carefully select the tracks that their beloved customers were treated to. It’s an important part of the dining experience and ambience to get the music just right, so can a CD from a posh eatery create this vibe and be a palatable experience too?
The Mezzanine De L’Alcazar compilation puts that straight. Even before talking about its heritage and history (and you will see it has bags) you will be fully absorbed at the first listen. It is an eclectic and sophisticated blend of electronica, soul, and contemporary disco that you would be proud to have on your iPod or as a backdrop to any dinner party.
Now in its 8th edition, the compilation is born out of the stylish scene created by The Mezzanine De L’Alcazar. A restaurant known as the glamorous social hub of Paris, a place where the top tier of the cities young, upwardly mobile, scene setters meet, eat and dance. Stylish and sexy, it has built up quite a reputation in Europe not just for its amazing food and setting but for its impeccable music.
This new album is split into two specially designed mixes entitled ‘dinner’ and ‘dance’. The first mix ‘dinner’ is sublime and relaxed, down tempo and atmospheric. The second mix is for après when you want the party to get a little looser.
The CD’s have been specially compiled and mixed by the longstanding residents of the venue. The pioneer of Alcazar’s music policy and the one of the main reasons for its notoriety is the young Parisian DJ, producer and Radio FG presenter Michael Canitrot. At only 27 years old, he is the man behind ‘So Happy in Paris’ a glamorous club night at the famous ‘Queens’ as well as being the restaurants long standing resident DJ. He is well positioned here as he is also the sound designer for major fashion labels and luxury brands including Dior, Cartier, Versace, D&G and Prada.
Michael’s mix is upbeat, providing the ‘Dance’ sound track. You’ll find sounds of Sebo K & Metro’s ‘Saxtrack’ and ATFC‘s ‘I Called U (The Conversation)’ and the current no.1 Ibiza smash ‘La Mezcla’. Other highlights include Spencer Parker’s twist on London’s finest ‘A New Day’ and Michael Canitrot’s own production big vocal production ‘Desire’.
The second ingredient of this special mix is brought to us by Wattfutchureez! (a play on words from What Your Future is!) Two of the resident DJs, Omar and Mourad make up this original outfit. Their speciality is searching out the best of nu soul, nu funk, nu jazz and deep house and presenting to the dance floor in their own seamlessly smooth way. This makes them ideal to compile and mix CD1 ‘Dinner’. Here you will find them blending the likes of The Rurals, Afterlife, Lisa Shaw, Prosumer and J Rawls to create the perfect laidback dining soundtrack.
We hope that you will enjoy this CD. Rarely have music and food - two of life’s most simple pleasures, come together with such sophistication.
Mezzanine De L'Alcazar Vol.8 is out 26th October.
