Next week, mysterious Italian trio Trescem drop ‘Turn on the Music’ – their first ever release – on Defected. This much is known; what is not known for sure, however, is pretty much everything else…
According to the scant information we can get our hands on, ‘The Scem Brothers’ as they were previously know were abandoned as young toddlers by their classically trained parents. Finding shelter in the relatively safety of an old warehouse the trio were raised by sweat-soaked ravers and up-and-coming DJs who used the warehouse for their own hedonistic pleasures.
Though perennially stunned by the noise and those occasional satchels of sweets they would find after the police raids that frequently came to the venue, the Brothers had actually started to blossom, living snuggly under the stage and surviving easily on a rich diet power-drinks and lollipops. It was here, hyped up on E-numbers that they began to develop their passion for the 4/4 beat.
Having no income of which to speak, they had to make do with things they could salvage from the warehouse and surrounding area with which to craft their first sounds. TV valves, old Stereo8 tape players, recycled Commodores, blunted razor blades, broken lazers and discarded steel drums were beaten, twisted and modified. Finally, after many years practice, from the Frankensteinian hunks of metal began to emerge the most beautiful sounds; sunny beats, melodic vocals, heavenly strings and rolling bass lines all merged to create what would later become known as ‘Turn on the Music’; a house anthem next to which The Brothers could stand proud.
Buoyed by their creation but choosing to shun the limelight that would inevitably come with such a sound, the Brothers went into hiding. After surfacing briefly in Eastern Europe and later in Tiananmen Square, the Brothers were reportedly spotted in South America and in some of the troubled hotspots of Western Africa. The latest news is that they have been living clandestinely in the UK for the past few months, but no-one has been able to confirm this.
The legend continues…
