A prominent player on the Dutch house scene for over two decades, Gerd is the latest DJ addition to Defected’s In Their House series, with a mix packed full of deep, groove-led house and a handful of unreleased tracks.

Enjoy

You just released 'Still Believe EP' with Defected earlier this year… how do you decide which of your records to release on your own 4 Lux label, and which to give to others?

It's hard to say really as most of the times this goes quite naturally without much thought. Usually I go into the studio with a clear idea for what label I am going to produce a track. In regards to ‘Still Believe’ Andy Daniell from Defected got in touch with me and asked me to do a remix for MK's ‘Always’ and it went from there.

Tell us about that experience of remixing ‘Always’? Does remixing such a prolific remixer come with any additional pressures?

Well, it was really nice being asked to remix ‘Always’. I have been a house head since the beginning so this was one of the many records I bought myself back in the day. Together with ‘Burning’ it is one of my favourite MK tunes so I was happy that I was asked. The NY Stomp remixes were produced together with Marcoradi, a talented producer from Italy with whom I also produced ‘Still Believe’. I never counted the remixes I did up till today but I wouldn't be surprised if the number comes close to 200. I did remixes for known artist like Ennio Morricone, Terry Calier and Brenda Fassie, to more unknown artists and I have to say I pretty much treat every remix job the same: I 'll always try to deliver something good.

Tell us about your mix... how and where was it recorded?

The mix was digitally recorded at home. I tried to make a nice collection of tunes that I regularly play in my sets.

Any tracks in there that you'd like to highlight?

Of course I would like to highlight ‘Still Believe’, my latest single out now on Defected.

Some of your best known records has come under your NY Stomp alias...  can we expect anything more from that moniker?

Yes a new NY Stomp is ready to be released in August. The track is called ‘I Feel It Comin On’ and features the voice of Matthew Kirkwood, a singer from NYC who used to record dope deep house records in the 90's. I start the mix with this track.

Anything else you'd like to tell us about?

Just enjoy the music!
