Ahead of the release of Defected In The House Tokyo '11, Rae talks us through all of the tracks featured on her mix, and gives us a little insight into why each was selected for the compilation.
01. Ceballos & DJ Chus 'Afrika' (Coyu 10 Years Later Remix)
Kings Of Tomorrow featuring Rae 'Can’t Stop' (Accapella)
It's great to hear the ‘Afrika’ hooks again so I wanted to start the journey with a slice of the past and where it began for me with Defected, which is of course 'Can’t Stop'.
02. Tensnake 'Coma Cat' (Round Table Knights Remix)’
Love the old school vibe of the original but this mix works perfectly in my sets, the drop kills it every time.
03. Jose Nunez featuring Shawnee Taylor 'Yesterday' (Original Mix)
As I sing live in my sets I don’t play so many tracks with female vocals but this one has a very cool vibe and Shawnee’s vocals do their thing in a subtle & smooth way.
04. Super Flu 'Bude Baun'
A good techy groove keeping things moving along, a bit of a cheeky bounce, always good to get lost at some points through the journey!
05. David Penn & Rober Gaez 'Sunshine People' (Brown Sugar & Kid Shakers Remix)
A big Ibiza track this year, puts a smile on your face and this mix is a great peak timer for me.
06. Louie Vega & Jay ‘Sinister’ Sealee starring Julie McKnight 'Diamond Life' (Daddy’s Groove Magic Island Rework)
One of the finest vocals around. Daddy’s Groove working some serious magic here, making this house classic current and anthemic. Perfect.
07. Michael Gray & Danism featuring Rae 'You Will Remember' (Original Mix)
My first collaboration with these guys - a great combo. Michael Gray, a producer with huge success, known for his slick and accessible sound and the Danism boys; fresh and innovative. And me of course adding my "hard done diva" lyrics and vocals to the mix, the result is an infectious sing along house groover.
08. Sergio Flores featuring Joy Malcolm 'Give It Back' (Big Acid Mix)
All the elements required to make a vocal track stand out in today’s scene. A sure fire hit and getting a great response every time I play it.
09. Sandy Rivera & Rae 'Hide U' (Sandy Rivera’s Club Mix)
Our revisit of this huge anthem from back in the day. It got me hooked when I first heard it and I am really happy to be bringing it back.
10. Daniel Bovie & Roy Rox vs Ricky Rivaro featuring Nelson 'My Destiny' (East & Young Remix)
I like Bovie & Rox for the more housey tip, this mix is refreshingly different and atmospheric and works well in its place.
11. Deux 'Sun Rising Up' (Vocal Mix)
This takes me back to some really great moments when I started playing out on the London scene. It hooks me in right from the start and the vocal gets under my skin, i just loose myself every time i hear it. Understated but so special.
12. Alex Font 'Angola' (Prok & Fitch Remix)
Got to be a Prok & Fitch mix in there, accessible, bouncy, fresh. Love it.
13. Butch 'XTC' (Riva Starr Cut)
Taking me back to the old school here with a classic sample driven by Riva's seamless techy beats.
14. DJ Gregory & Gregor Salto featuring Dama Pancha & DJ Mankila 'Vem Rebola' (Oh Beat)
A section one of my favourite Defected tracks of the year from these seriously talented producers.
15. G Club Presents Banda Sonora 'Guitarra G' (G Club Original Mix)
This takes me back to Ibiza; Bora Bora, sun shining, happy people and this tune, the guitars, the Balearic vibe. That’s house music; a feeling.
Sandy Rivera & Andy Daniell 'Whatever' (Accapella)
I chose this sample because I don’t like to label my sound, My music is fused creatively, sometimes spiritually...Not much electro but...WHATEVER...
