World famous Amsterdam club Trouw has confirmed via its website that it will close in 2015. No reason has been given for the closure.
Trouw’s online statement does however flag that owners will be making two major changes to ensure the venue’s final full year reaches “an absolute climax.” Cameras will be prohibited inside the venue and Trouw will no longer sell pre-sale tickets to its usual club nights – they will only be available at the door. Both changes come into force on January 1, 2014.
Trouw’s web statement reads: “We want to protect the freedom Trouw provides and in a sense give this freedom back to our visitors. Currently, we're witnessing that a lot of popular events sell out completely in presale, which automatically excludes a lot of people. But possibly of even greater importance: the excitement surrounding the nights, the spontaneity and the freedom are being jeopardized. In the last year we want to make sure that we don't become part of this hype."
The statement continues: “We hope that when the cameras are gone, a feeling will emerge whereby everyone can do, act and wear whatever he/she pleases. What happens in Trouw, stays in Trouw.”
Trouw opened in 2009, erected from the ashes of an old Amsterdam newspaper printing works. The club has become a major force on the international electronic scene, typified by its heavy involvement through the annual ADE season.
