Former Erasure man Vince Clarke and Depeche Mode’s Martin L Gore have confirmed a new techno project VCMG, their first musical partnership since 1981 when Clarke was in Basildon band Depeche Mode with Gore.
VCMG will release their first single, Spock, via Beatport on November 30, with a full digital launch to follow December 12 and 12” package on December 19. The track, also boasting remixes by Edit-Select, DVS1, XOQ and Regis (AKA Sandwell District’s Karl O’Connor), precedes a full-length album in spring 2012; a project put together purely via emails and file exchanges between Clarke and Gore’s respective studios.
“I’ve been getting into and listening to a lot of minimal dance music and I got really intrigued by all the sounds… I realised I needed a collaborator… so it occurred to me to talk to Martin” Gore remarks. “Out of the blue I got an e-mail from Vince just saying, ‘I'm interested in making a techno album. Are you interested in collaborating?’ This was maybe a year ago. He said, ‘No pressure, no deadlines,’ so I said, ‘OK’.”
