Steinberg, the company behind Cubase and HALion released both their HALion Sonic 2 software earlier this year. A simpler alternative to its HALion big brother, the HALion Sonic 2 boasts pristine audio quality and 16 instrument slots that can be loaded with presets which can be routed to one of the 16 stereo outputs and saved as multi-preset for instant recall. It gives users access to thousands of synthesized and acoustic sounds through the means of eight new instruments including the virtual analog Trium synthesizer, Auron for granular oscillation, Voltage for that extra punch, World Instruments and World Percussion, HALiotron, the Model C organ emulation and the B-Box step sequencer for beats and drum patterns.

It also includes nine new effects such as the VST Amp which offers bass and guitar effects sounds and an Auto Filter for seamless sound morphing. Additionally the FlexPhraser is inspired by Yamaha’s Motif technology and provides complex arpeggios and now sports the user phrase editor to create custom patterns and phrases.
