The 22-song programme for Daft Punk’s feverishly anticipated soundtrack to Tron comeback movie Tron Legacy has finally been confirmed.
The Tron Legacy soundtrack is the boys’ (Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo) first original studio material for five years – since 2005’s Human After All. It was recorded with a 90-piece orchestra; influenced, according to Bangalter, by the sound of classical music. That said, material already released from the album – like track Derezzed - features driving electro-beats and robo-synths, and suggests the core Punk sound is very much alive and well.
Daft Punk have a strong connection to film. 2001 album Discovery was used as a base for the soundtrack to Interstella 5555, the movie they produced alongside anime king Leiji Matsumoto. In 2006, the duo penned and directed abstract flick Electroma; elsewhere, Bangalter has devised music for acclaimed films by compatriot director Gasper Noe – Irreversible and Enter The Void.
