2011 is developing as the year that people reaffirmed their love of dancing in the open air. Here at Defected, we’ve always been heavily involved in the al-freso clubbing experience – whether that’s the classic WMC Miami Pool Parties of the mid to late-00s or festivals in exotic locations like Sunburn in Goa, ZoukOut in Singapore and Junction Festival in Bali – but this year things have really taken off.
From our new weekly residency at Ushuaia in Ibiza to parries at Sasha Beach in Portugal and Bloomingdale in the Netherlands and countless festivals in between, clubbing outdoors has soared in popularity this year and we are proud to be a part of the movement.
The importance of clubs on house music culture cannot, of course, be underestimated. However, when the sun is shining brightly and the nights become that little bit longer, not everyone wants to spend their nights in an underground sweatbox or disused warehouse. This is where Beach Clubbing comes in.
The feeling of clubbing together and doing something differently was a huge part of the origins of acid house and Balearic club culture. People of a similar mindset came together and bonded over a shared experience that first created a community but then ultimately created the most powerful or dominant movement in youth culture since the invention of rock n’ roll.
Everyone loves to club outside, it can be more exotic, it’s certainly more natural and it’s all about doing things a little differently; something you’re not generally allowed to do most of the time.
