All label profits for the album (out Friday 19th July) will go towards Kathy, who was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in 2023.

We're also holding a fundraising event on Thursday 18th July at Defected HQ to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, Kathy’s chosen charity.

We are proud to unveil Legacy, an LP celebrating Kathy Brown as one of house music’s most prolific and accomplished vocalists, with label profits from the record going towards her healthcare fund.

“When we found out that Kathy had stage four cancer, she told us that she had never had an album out before and that she’d love to have a body of work in one place. So, we set about collating some of her strongest releases, including four new exclusive remixes from fans of her work including DJ Spen, Michael Gray, Sophie Lloyd and Moplen. I’m excited about this Glitterbox release for one of the fiercest house divas of our time.” Seamus Haji, A&R Manager

A Legacy album launch party event will take place at Defected HQ, 6-11pm on Thursday 18th July, which is set to be live streamed, to raise money for Kathy’s chosen charity - Macmillan Cancer Support. The sparkling line-up will feature Glitterbox favourites Katie Goodman, Sophie Lloyd, Michael Gray, Seamus Haji and Melvo Baptiste.

Tickets are currently available via Resident Advisor, with proceeds going to charity, with RA kindly waiving all ticketing costs for the event.

As well as the album, a new line of t-shirts featuring Kathy’s image, created with Glitterbox designer Mark Wardel, are available now on DStore (3rd July 2024); profits from these will also raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. To support the release, we will also host a radio special for Kathy on Wednesday 10th July.

A professional through and through, Kathy Brown established herself with her smooth, malleable and powerful vocals, leading to an impressive portfolio that includes collaborations with David Morales, Soul Central, Seamus Haji, Micky More & Andy Tee and more.

“I’ve known and worked with Kathy since the mid 90’s from performing in clubs together, as A&R at Defected, and more recently on my singles ‘A Better Place’ and ‘Dance With Me’ on my Big Love label. I’ve always admired Kathy, from seeing her tear it up live in the clubs to her studio work; I love her positive attitude and it’s a joy to work with her.”- Seamus Haji

The 19-track compilation features four new remixes and edits from the leading house, disco, funk and soul producers of today alongside legacy tracks from her shining career. A highly acclaimed remixer, DJ Spen adds his signature style to ‘Get Another Love’ - Kathy’s noughties take on the 70s hit from Chantal Curtis. ‘Give It Up’ from the Soulfuric trio of Tappert, Knight and Pomeroy as Eminence is given a unique spin by established vinyl junkie Moplen, with Kathy’s vocals pulling focus and dripping in sensuality.

The Legacy sampler (out Wednesday 3rd July) features her chart-topping collaboration with British production duo Soul Central ‘Strings Of Life (Stronger On My Own)’, first released on Defected, remixed by close label friend Michael Gray. Next, house and disco aficionado Sophie Lloyd also reworks Warren Clarke’s ‘Over You’, a Defected record that defined Kathy Brown as a house music tour de force, with Sophie and her co-writer Darren Morris adding gospel fuelled piano hooks and live bass.

As well as these fresh remixes and reworks, Kathy’s defining releases in their full glory are spotlighted throughout this very special LP.
