Glitterbox: the new party from Defected bringing the original spirit of house music back to the White Isle.
Taking place at Booom Ibiza every Saturday throughout the season, Glitterbox’s aim is simple: to throw a truly great party that ignores trends, fads and niche appeal in favour of focussing on the most important ingredient there is – the music – and that of course starts with the guys behind the decks.
Ahead of each party, we'll be bringing you mixes and artist profiles on the DJs and live acts you can catch every week.
Saturday 28 June sees Kenny Dope, Lovebirds, Smokin Jo and Mr Doris take control of Booom Ibiza’s bespoke Pioneer soundsystem – buy tickets here
This week sees one of the original House Masters Kenny Dope bring his undeniable talent behind the decks to rock the Glitterbox dancefloor. Having played an integral part in House Music's evolution alongside "Little" Louie Vega as Masters At Work and prodcution credits as far and wide as Bucketheads 'The Bomb [These Sounds Fall Into My Mind]' to Masters At Work 'To Be In Love,' this weekend is definitely one not to be missed.
Playing alongside Kenny Dope this Saturday is Lovebirds, the solo project of Sebastian ‘Basti’ Doering and the man responsible for some of the most infectious and funk-filled slices of disco and house in the last decade. Equally lauded for his DJ sets as much as his productions, the Glitterbox dancefloor will undoubtedly be 'Holdin On' this Saturday.
Below, longtime Ibiza resident Mr Doris has dropped an exclusive Sound of Glitterbox mix, along with a few words on what you can expect on the night.
You’ve been an Ibiza resident for some years now… how has the island changed in the time you’ve been there?
Wow, that's a pretty big question! I guess the short answer is that the island has changed as much as the world has changed over the last 10 or so years. The increase in the higher spending end of tourism has affected Ibiza greatly both positively & negatively. Prices have sky-rocketed ludicrously which has priced out some people, but on the other hand it has brought the standards and choices ton the island to much higher levels. Musically there is a lot more choice which ultimately is a good thing (even if there is a lot of terrible music here now too).
How does the island feel this year?
The energy on the island feels good so far with a great deal of quality music being played in all forms which is always nice. We've obviously been hit by the World Cup as always but now Spain and England are out we should be seeing less people staring at their television screens and more people in the clubs.
Tell us about your mix for Glitterbox…
It's a mix that shows people what to expect when they arrive to the club and hear me warming up the room. Nothing too heavy and filled with soul.
What record epitomises what people can expect from Glitterbox at Booom?
Wow! Another big question! I guess if I had to pick one tune it would be Ladycop 'To Be Real'.
Accompanying Mr Doris on the night will be the technical brilliance of Kenny Dope, the soulful house melodies of Lovebirds and the groove-led bounce of Smokin Jo.
