The Greco-Roman label, borne out of Dom Mentsh, Alex Waldron and Joe Goddard’s eponymous DJ collective, will release its first ever compilation album next month.
We Make Colourful Music Because We Dance In The Dark spreads 24 tracks across two discs, labelled ‘Colourful Music’ and ‘Dance In The Dark’ respectively. Both feature material from label regulars including Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Disclosure and Goddard (whose collaboration with Boris Dlugosch, Step Together, also features); the latter, however, focuses more on remixes of those regulars by the likes of Dixon, Four Tet, Soulwax and Roman Flugel.
Greco-Roman’s founders all have other major commitments, Mentsh working in music management, Waldron Head Of Marketing for Island Records (his switch from Berlin’s !K7 only just announced) and Goddard part of synth-pop sensations Hot Chip. But the trio continue to throw parties together and release through the Greco-Roman imprint. Launched in 2007, the cult label has also nurtured the careers of Vampire Weekend’s Baio and Roosevelt.
We Make Colourful Music Because We Dance In The Dark is released on August 12.
