If you've ever wandered happily across the legendary Pacha Terraza, chances are you've grooved to the sounds of a certain multi-talented DJ without ever knowing who it was. During the summer months, Cristian Doros aka Mr Doris holds down residencies at two of the biggest clubs on the planet; Space (for Carl Cox, Come Together & We Love...) and Pacha, while over the winter period he holds down a coveted residency for London based Soundcrash (alongside DJ Vadim & Mr Thing). Here, he heads up the third edition of the ‘In Their House’ series.

Receiving praise from a diverse range of musical maestros such as Carl Cox, Mayer Hawthorne, Dimitri From Paris, Carl Craig, Guru, Gilles Peterson, Jurassic5, Roni Size & DJ Kentaro to name just a few, his highly eclectic mix demonstrates why the above mentioned artists hold him in such high regard.

In Their House #03 - Mr. Doris by Defected Records

What’s it like being resident at two of the most famous clubs on the planet?

As anyone can probably imagine it's an absolute pleasure and an honour to be involved with such well respected clubs, especially when I can express my musical tastes without conforming to any strict boundaries. Ibiza and the clubs here have played such a large part in my life for over 15 years and it's more than a dream come true to be able to live and work here on the island year round.

Anyone who’s been to Pacha has probably heard you play without even realizing it…do you ever wish you were in the main room, smashing out the anthems?

It's always nice to play on a large sound system (I get my fix on the Sunset Terrace at Space on Sundays and gigs outside of Ibiza) but my passion lies in music that might not necessarily work on all of the Ibiza mainroom dancefloors. Playing on the Pacha Terraza is great because I get to play a five hour set that can encompass all styles of music, plus it's a real meeting place for friends and people who live on the island so there's always a nice buzz up there (plus there are always a few impromptu back2back sessions!).

I heard a few DJs say that 2010 felt like a return to the ‘real Ibiza’. What that means is obviously open to speculation, but did you notice a tangible change on the island last year?

Every year is different here, the fact that the tourist industry has been going strong for over 40 years now is a testament to how the island can change, evolve or adapt to the world around it, often helping to set certain worldwide musical and clubbing trends. That said, I believe a lot of the clubs became a bit complacent and just didn't move with the times as quickly as they should have. Last season really marked a change in that with promoters not being afraid to try something different and book artists/DJs they may not necessarily have in the past. The daily line-ups in all the clubs were absolutely incredible with a much wider audience being catered for. This coupled with a feeling of great enthusiasm on the island created the best summer I’ve had for a long time. 2010 was also a particularly good for music worldwide, with a move from cold, almost soulless sounds to warmer and happier grooves making their way back to the dancefloor, which in turn made the parties themselves a nicer place to be.

Why do you think Ibiza continues to be such a Mecca for lovers of dance music?

The island has been a focal point for house music lovers, producers and DJs for over two decades  and as already mentioned dance music can now be enjoyed in many different forms here. This has really helped broaden the catchment of people that wish to dance to the music they know and love, be that dubstep, disco, house, techno or anything in between. The incredible venues and nice climate must help a little too.

Tell us a bit about the mix…when, where and how was it put together?

It's a mix recorded live using Serato and vinyl at a favourite little hangout of mine called Lo Cura in Ibiza Town the week before Christmas. It showcases my more disco flavoured sets of which I played a lot on Saturdays at Pacha. It includes nuggets both old and new, slow and fast… some of which you may know and some I’m sure you won’t.

Any tracks in there that hold any particularly special memories?

The opening track 'C.R.A.I.G' is a real gem from my good friends (and fellow We Love… residents) PBR Streetgang. This track really sets things going and smashed it on my last Australian tour. Mr. Scruff's 'Get On Down' (from his recent album) is another beauty that really seemed to push peoples buttons on the Sunset Terrace for Come Together, Carl Cox & We Love… at Space last season.

You’re one of an ever-decreasing number of successful DJs that does not really produce music of their own…do you think you’re a dying breed?

We certainly are a dying breed! I have produced in the past, (including releases on Bang! Records) but it's been a long time since I've done anything concrete due to other work commitments. Fear not though, as I have had my head down in the studio since the end of the summer & there'll some new material due for release in spring. Musical styles (like my DJ-ing) range from downtempo through house and disco to drum & bass… so hopefully they'll be something in there for everyone.

Anything else you’d like to tell us about…?

I'm very excited about the year ahead. As already mentioned I have some tasty production work in the pipeline for release and my first mix compilation 'El Chiringuito' will be out in April on We Love… Records. Added to that I’ve got some good gigs booked up alongside some great artists and DJs at some amazing venues around the world to keep me from getting rusty in the winter months. The 2011 summer season here in Ibiza looks set to be even better than last year, with some amazing parties and line-ups already planned…so keep an eye out and an ear close to the ground to find out exactly when and where…
