The Swedish House Mafia are to split at the end of their current tour.

The trio, comprising producers Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso and Axwell - who have scored themselves four top ten hits in the UK - will continue their solo careers from August.

“We want to thank every single one of you that came with us on this journey,” read a statement. “The tour we are about to go on will be our last.”

On Twitter, Sebastian Ingrosso went on to say: “It's better to burn out than to fade away.”

Their huge, 65,000 capacity gig at Milton Keynes Bowl on July 14 with be their last UK date, with a few more planned for Ibiza and their native Sweden.

The group also made their mark in the USA, their tracks Miami 2 Ibiza and Save The World hitting number one in the dance charts.

But they also received their share of criticism.

Ingrosso was widely mocked after recently comparing the band to The Beatles, saying: “I think the Beatles made something that's kind of melancholic to sad and happy combined, and that's just amazing. I kind of analyse music a lot, and I think that what the Beatles have done is what we do today. It doesn't matter that we do dance music.”

They also entered into a war of words with DJ Sneak on Twitter, after Sneak accused them of not being proper DJs.
